Program Information

PLEASE READ THIS CAREFULLY BEFORE REGISTERING YOUR CHILD IN THE FAMILY FAITH FORMATION PROGRAM.

Preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation is a two-year process and a tremendous opportunity for your family, the candidate for the sacrament, and for our entire parish.

FIRE is St. Brigid's program for Confirmation preparation. Our model of formation has moved away from the typical classroom format and instead seeks to create a communal faith learning experience in a small group setting where Faith Mentors and their assigned groups will journey through the 2 year formation process together.

Before registering, we ask you to review the following so you are clear about the expectations for the FIRE process here at St. Brigid’s. It is our intent to clearly communicate expectations and work with you to meet these requirements.  Failure to meet these expectations will require repetition of the formation year.

  • Families desiring to enter the FIRE Confirmation Preparation will need to apply to the program.  This will allow the candidate and his/her family to explain why they wish to be confirmed and what they hope to gain from the process. It is not hard, more reflective than anything else.
  • After successful completion of the FIRE application, young people will be placed in small groups led by a mentor/leader in our parish. It is our hope this person will lead the group for the entire 2 year process.
  • Families must attend Mass each Sunday (or Saturday evening). They must complete 25 Mass reflections throughout the year.  SUNDAY Mass attendance is a core obligation of our faith.
  • Small groups meet at St. Brigid’s school every other Thursday from October through May (approximately two times a month) from 7:00pm - 8:30pm.
    • Because there are fewer sessions, students may not miss more than two sessions and must be on time. If a student arrives after 7:15 p.m., he/she is considered absent as our presentations begin on time.
    • If a student misses more than two sessions, he/she will need to repeat the level in the following fall.  Families will be notified upon the third absence.
  • Other events (Opening Prayer Service, Reconciliation) may be held on other evenings or at other times throughout the year.
  • Students in FIRE-Year 2 will be required to attend a retreat experience on a Saturday or Sunday.
  • Each student is required to complete a level appropriate workbook/journal that is a condition for moving into the next level of Faith Formation or to the Sacrament of Confirmation.
  • Parents/guardians should expect to attend three to four meetings a year.

If a student is returning to Family Faith Formation after a time away, i.e. was not enrolled in Faith Formation last year or year before, he/she will be required to complete a BRIDGE program that will catch them up. The BRIDGE Program will be offered during the summer at an additional fee.  Families with impacted students will be notified once their FIRE registrations are processed.

If your child is preparing for Baptism, he/she will also be enrolled in WATER which will work in tandem with their participation at Sunday Mass to prepare them for Baptism and the sacraments of initiation.

Please remember that all families with children in Grades 1-8 should enroll in the Family Faith Formation Program or St. Brigid-Our Lady of Hope School.
