Program Information
PLEASE READ THIS CAREFULLY BEFORE REGISTERING YOUR CHILD IN THE FAMILY FAITH FORMATION PROGRAM.
We are so happy you and your family will be part of our Family Faith Formation program. If your student (s) is in Grades 1 - 6, they will be enrolled in BREAD, a program geared for families with students in Levels 1-6 who are preparing for First Holy Communion and the years that follow. (Students who are preparing for First Holy Communion in Grades 3, 4, and 5 will complete their preparation through BREAD.
We share the following so you can be fully informed of the expectations and commitment required for this program:
- Parents or guardians MUST attend a family formation session with their child during the first week of each month from October - May.
- Having children come with their parents was a suggestion made by many parents and caregivers during the last year.
- This session will be offered three times each month - generally the first Monday of the month at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. and the first Wednesday of the month at 6 p.m.
- Parents/guardians must attend ONE of those sessions with their child. Each session will be the same topic. It is presented at various times for your convenience.
- Missing more than two sessions will require a repeat of the year.
- So, for the most part, families are coming to St. Brigid’s AT MOST two times a month.
- St. Brigid’s does not offer a “classroom” or “online” model of Family Faith Formation.
- At various months, students and parents/guardians will be invited to attend an additional family formation session. For some levels, participation in these events is required.
- Parents or guardians will work with their child/dren to explore each month’s topic using the Family in Faith resources provided to you at each session.
- Parents/guardians are required to complete an online form demonstrating some knowledge of the topic of the month.
- As part of our BREAD process, families are expected to:
- Attend Mass each Sunday, completing twenty (20) Mass reflections throughout the year.
- Complete a required number of service experiences (it varies based on age and will be clearly listed in the journal
- Participate in our Opening Prayer Services as well other related liturgies throughout the year. Thanksgiving Prayer Service, Advent Prayer Service, Reconciliation Prayer Service (typically during Lent) and a Closing Prayer Service (in May), in addition to Holy days of obligation.
- Completion of a journal/workbook
- Failure to meet these expectations will require repetition of the formation year. For students in Year I and II of preparation for Communion, there will be additional preparation sessions throughout the year.
If your child is preparing for Baptism, he/she will also be enrolled in WATER which will work with their participation at Sunday Mass to prepare them for Baptism and the sacraments of initiation. Attendance is required for the WATER sessions. A list of dates will be provided.
